Connect an AI assistant to Spellar
Spellar has an MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants that speak the Model Context Protocol can read your meetings and answer from them. You stay in the assistant you already use; it asks Spellar for what it needs.
An assistant reads by default. When you connect it you choose whether it may also change a few things, such as marking an action item done or adding a note. It can never delete anything, and you can disconnect it at any time.
Server address: https://mcp.spellar.ai/mcp
What you need
- A Spellar account on a paid plan. During the free trial it works for your recent meetings.
- An assistant that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in (OAuth).
Connect
Claude (web, desktop and mobile)
- In Claude, open Customize → Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector and paste
https://mcp.spellar.ai/mcp. - Press Connect, sign in to Spellar and allow access.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector first; members then connect their own accounts.
Claude Code
Run this in your terminal, then type /mcp in Claude Code, pick spellar and sign in:
claude mcp add --transport http spellar https://mcp.spellar.ai/mcp
Cursor
Open Cursor Settings → MCP, add a server and use https://mcp.spellar.ai/mcp as its URL, or add this to mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"spellar": { "url": "https://mcp.spellar.ai/mcp" }
}
}
Signed-in users also get a one-click Add to Cursor button in Settings.
ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Plugins and press +.
- Choose Add custom MCP server and paste
https://mcp.spellar.ai/mcp. - Create the plugin and sign in to Spellar when asked.
Custom MCP servers in ChatGPT depend on your ChatGPT plan and, in a workspace, on your admin's settings.
Any other MCP client
Use https://mcp.spellar.ai/mcp with the Streamable HTTP transport. The client discovers sign-in on its own; there is no API key to copy.
What an assistant can do
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| List meetings | Your meetings in a date range, a folder or with a tag |
| Search meetings | Finds meetings by what was said, by keyword, by attendee or by date |
| Get meeting | The summary, notes, action items, attendees and speakers of one meeting |
| Get transcript | The transcript of one meeting, in pages |
| List action items | Open or completed action items, across meetings or for one |
| Upcoming meetings | What is next on your connected calendar |
| List folders | The folders you file meetings into |
| Get recap | Spellar's weekly or monthly digest of your meetings |
| Spellar account | Your plan, time zone and what the connection may read and change |
What it can change, if you allow it
Each of these is a separate choice on the screen where you approve the connection. Leave one unticked and the assistant is not offered that tool.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Complete action item | Marks an action item done, or open again |
| Edit action item | Changes its wording, owner, due date or priority |
| Add note to meeting | Adds a note next to your own |
| Rename, tag or file meeting | Changes a meeting's title, tags or folder |
| Create share link | Makes a link that lets anyone who has it read one meeting for seven days. Off unless you tick it |
No tool deletes a meeting, a note or an action item. To change what an assistant may do, disconnect it and connect again.
Things to ask
- "What did we decide in my last meeting?"
- "List my open action items that are due this week."
- "Prepare me for my next meeting from earlier notes with the same people."
- "Find the meeting where we talked about pricing and quote what was said."
- "Mark the SOC 2 letter action item as done." (if you allowed changes)
Permissions and privacy
- When you connect, Spellar shows which assistant is asking and what it may read: meetings, transcripts, action items and calendar. Nothing is shared until you allow it.
- Changing anything is optional and chosen item by item on that screen. A connection you gave no such permission can only read.
- No connection can delete anything, edit a summary or transcript, or send a message for you.
- A share link, if you allowed the assistant to create one, opens that meeting to anyone who has the link for seven days and cannot be withdrawn earlier.
- What the assistant reads is sent to that assistant's provider and handled under its terms and your settings there. Spellar does not control what the provider does with it.
- See and remove connections in Settings. Disconnecting takes effect immediately.
- Meeting text is passed to the assistant as data. Spellar tells assistants not to treat what was said in a meeting as instructions.
Read more in the Privacy Policy and the AI Usage Policy.
Limits
- Search by meaning covers meetings recorded since May 2026. Older meetings are found by keyword, date and attendee.
- Requests are rate limited per account. If an assistant says the limit was reached, wait a minute and ask again.
- On a plan with a history limit, an assistant sees the same meetings you can open in Spellar.
Troubleshooting
- The assistant says it needs authorization again. The connection expired or was removed. Connect again from the assistant.
- "This app could not be connected". Start the connection again from the assistant; the sign-in request is only valid for ten minutes.
- Spellar asks you to upgrade. Connecting needs a paid plan, or a free trial that is still running.
- The tools do not appear. Restart the assistant, or remove the server and add it again.
- Results look incomplete. Ask for a narrower date range, or ask the assistant to open a specific meeting.
